This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Kindergarten students are developing socially and emotionally. At the same time, they are developing academically. My students are outstanding, and I am in awe of their resilience daily.

At my Family Connection meetings at the beginning of the school year, many families shared that the most significant support their students needed was social and emotional support.

Many of my students have had limited to no social contact with other children their age or other people due to COVID. As a result, many students struggle with social situations and managing their feelings and emotions. Ignoring social and emotional skills development will hurt students overall but also academics. The impact that COVID has had on my students' social and emotional development is a top priority for me as their teacher.

I need to support their social-emotional learning and development and be intentional with lessons and resources in the classroom to help improve my students' social-emotional development and academic education.

In this project, I have included resources like read-aloud stories, workbooks, coloring books, play-doh, fidgets, and meditation tools to help my students. Read Aloud books are a powerful resource in the classroom; workbooks provide an opportunity to carry out activities in the school, and hands-on tools like fidgets, playdoh, and squish mallows allow students to regulate their emotions. These resources will help develop their problem-solving, teamwork, grit, and character and prepare them for the future as we continue navigating the global pandemic.
