This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been the most impacted when schools closed due to COVID-19. My now 3rd graders were first graders and thrust into the world of technology, many of which had never used a computer before. We are now seeing the effects of this pandemic era. I now see students entering my class in tears and unable to regulate their emotions. I soothe and talk to them about their feelings the best way I know how.

The requested items such as STEM related activities, allows students to self regulate by being involved in something they love!

Being around their peers again after a 2 year hiatus and collaborating together to build, manipulate and construct, takes the pressure off their feelings and puts it on building relationships. Studies show that coding and STEM practice inhibits several social emotional skills such as empathy towards others, managing emotions and collaborating and sharing ideas, to name a few.

These skills, paired with the STEM and coding activities will ensure that my students have the skills necessary to build positive relationships with others as well as self management of their feelings and emotions.
