Social Emotional Learning Classroom

My Students

I am a school social worker in Chicago Public Schools. My students are resilient, funny, and smart. They love incorporating SEL into their days, whether it’s for mindfulness break, check-in, or a sensory break. They would really love these resources!

My Project

These items will be used to help set up a social emotional learning/sensory room for students in K-8. Many of my students have sensory needs or difficulty regulating their bodies, and these items help promote regulation. Students can come to this room and use these resources when they are upset or needing a break. Having a comfy and flexible room means that students will be more likely to regulate and share their feelings. When students are calm and regulated, it helps them learn and retain information. Kinetic sand and water beads are a favorite tool for students to regulate. In addition, the chair bands help kids focus when completing work. The bean bag chairs will be used in the social work office during therapy sessions.
