Social-Emotional Learning Books and Tools for 1st Grade Students

Help me give my students books for social-emotional learning as well as a class set of boogie boards for use as a calming tool and for academic use.

My Students

The COVID-19 pandemic limited the number of hours my first-grade students spent outside of their homes learning critical social skills during their preschool and kindergarten years. Now that they are in school for a full day, it is more important than ever to have the resources to support the much-needed social/emotional learning.

My first-grade students are learning to persevere with the help of strong book characters they can relate to.

They come to school with an innate love of learning, but my goal as a teacher is for them to leave my classroom not only with strong reading and writing skills but with resilience to overcome hard things including separation anxiety and school stress.

My Project

The Ninja Life Hack book series will provide a character my students can fall in love with throughout the year. The books will provide a jumping point for emotional growth discussions on a regular basis in our classroom.

The boogie board writing tablets will be a powerful tool for use in our classroom calming corner.

The writing boards will also be used daily for phonics activities with my first-graders.

Other activity-based items such as dot paints, legos, and a building set that are included in the project will be used by students who need to take a brief emotional break before returning to academic learning.
