This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very low socioeconomic environment in which most of them receive free lunch in our district. These children come from all types of backgrounds, and many are children that have migrated to the United States. Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. We help students learn English while holding onto and becoming literate in their own language as well.

My students have not only been affected by their low socioeconomic condition, but they also live in the second highest state most affected by the coronavirus in the nation.

We are continuously looking for innovative approaches to teaching and learning to help our most underprivileged students. A creative use of technology can make a difference in their lives.

My Project

With the holiday season coming up, and the expectations of a second wave of coronavirus this winter, there is a growing needs for social emotional learning. Our underprivileged families and students are especially vulnerable during this time of crisis and needs as much support as possible.

With this project full of social emotional toys and activities, I am hoping to bring some much needed positivity into their home during this pandemic forcing our students to learn virtually.

Everyone loves receiving gifts during the holidays, and we want to ensure that during a pandemic holiday that our students can continue to have this wonderful feeling of hope and happiness.

While the parents must ensure that there is food on the table, I am asking donors to help me spread holiday cheers and joys this holiday season with gifts baskets that we will put together with the donations.
