Social Emotional Books Necessary More Than Ever!

Help me give my students social emotional learning books to help understand their feelings through this challenging time with remote learning and providing them with strategies to cope with those big feelings.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kyoko's classroom raised $328

This project is fully funded

My Students

My first graders are in a high poverty school with almost 75% of our student body receiving free and reduced price lunch. Our diverse school also has a high ELL (English Language Learners) population, where we serve 4 or more other languages besides English year around.

My students need books about Social Emotional Learning to support students emotional and mental health during this challenging time with remote learning!

My student's families are greatly impacted with remote learning. Most of them are working families that have either lost their jobs or are essential workers who are grappling with being a parent, teacher, and an employee. Kids cannot access/retain academics if they are under a great deal of stress-the best way to support students at this time is to help them understand their feelings to get them to a place where academic learning can happen.

My Project

These social emotional learning books will be used as a starting point for each of class meetings. During class meetings, not only will we be creating an online classroom community, but the books will be a reference to how we can understand our big feelings we are all feeling through this pandemic. Students can think about and then find strategies they can use at home on how to deal with their big emotions. Right now, social emotional learning is needed more than ever since we are not in the classroom! It is challenging connecting with students and with each other, so having these books will be a great tool to help them connect.
