My Students

I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classroom. As a special education teacher, I focus on much more than academics with my students. This year, I am working with my students on their social emotional needs, so that they can adapt well to their classroom environments and learn the best they can. If students social emotional needs are not met, they are unable to meet the high academic demands of school today.

My current students struggle with regulating their emotions and expressing themselves appropriately, which can negatively impact their ability to succeed in the classroom. Everyday they learn new strategies they can use to keep themselves calm and focused in the classroom

My Project

This year, I am working with special education students in grades 3-5. Rather than work with them on academics, I am teaching social emotional learning and strategies that can help them stay focused and calm in the classroom. Unfortunately, some children struggle greatly with self-regulation and management of their emotions. This greatly impacts their ability to succeed in the classroom. I would love the opportunity to build a library of books that teach students how to manage their own emotions and act appropriately while in the classroom. If my students are able to master these SEL skills they will be able to focus and learn to their full potential.
