Social and Emotional Learning Lab

Help me give my students necessary tools and techniques to help facilitate social emotional learning. As an elementary school counselor, I have the opportunity to teach every student on campus about life skills and coping strategies.

My Project

Social emotional learning (SEL) effects every student, and is the basis for all education. When students are able to control their emotions, they are more effective at learning. This benefits not only the student but the teacher, class, school and community. When students are actively engage in learning more time is spent on academic progression. Due to Covid, school closures, uncertain home situations, students are coming to school with more adverse childhood experiences and a lack of coping skills. The social emotional learning lab targets coping strategies and provides a meaningful relationship with at least one caring adult. Along with the lab, this project will help fund our Kindness Club and small groups, open to all students. Small groups collaborate around a small round table along with students involved in mediation to resolve conflict. With crafts and snacks, basic refridergation is ideal to keep activities and nutrition at it's best. Our students love to create crafts with food. The SEL lab and Kindness Club provides students with unity, acceptance, and security.
