My Students

My students at HPA are like a family. They are caring and compassionate but have real emotions that get the best of them sometimes. My students are learning how to navigate their emotions in a healthy way.

They value and appreciate their unique individual self while respecting others to do the same.

They focus on building healthy friendships through communicating effectively, working cooperatively, and understanding diversity. My students are learning and growing every day, not only academically, but emotionally and socially as well.

My Project

These social and emotional tools will help my students in the classroom as well as their parents in our parent workshops. I will use these tools to provide students and parents the foundation of the five core competencies of social and emotional learning: self-management, self-awareness-social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.

The "A Little Spot" curriculum will be used in the classroom each week to help teach students to learn how to recognize their feelings, self-regulate, and react in a healthy way.

The Totika therapy games will be used both in the classroom and in the parent workshops to help teach social and emotional concepts to parents and students.

Social and emotional learning helps both children and adults better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behavior so they can become more self-aware and be more empathetic towards others. I feel that SEL programs should be implemented in all schools, more now than ever before. We have to start somewhere and I need your help to start here at HPA.
