This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my classroom I have the opportunity to observe two different classes. In one class I have a normal group of students and in the other a class of gifted students. One common characteristic that I see in my gifted group is the drive of asking deeper questions about our learning tasks. Even though most of them are curious about our tasks there are some students who are quiet and prefer to work on their own away from their classmates. I plan to develop projects in class that satisfy the needs of all my students.

In my classroom I support my gifted students’ learning needs by playing multiple academic games in our math centers.

Some of my gifted students have their own talents and potential to grow. We must be ready for gifted students who have the desire to learn at their own pace. At the same time they also bring social emotional learning (SEL) needs and we need to be prepared with tools to identify and support their SEL wellbeing in our classroom community.

My Project

In light of COVID-19, we all are concerned about the pandemic in the past two years. I decided to create an extracurricular activity (soccer clinic) to support my students' social-emotional needs. Soccer allows students to practice their social skills and team-building activities. Another benefit of practicing soccer is that students get to enjoy doing exercise. I have coached soccer for the past five years. I enjoy seeing the faces of my students making new relationships. All students are invited to participate in the soccer clinic. My students work hard playing soccer because they share a common goal.
