Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard-working, inquisitive second-language learners who come from families where Spanish is the primary language. They are taught in a bilingual setting so they can then transfer their academic skills and strategies to learning English Language Arts.

As research has shown, being bilingual is an asset to students, and these students work very hard to make sure they keep their native language while succeeding in English, also.

Students not only learn Spanish language arts, but also English language development, and English language arts.

They are curious, inquisitive, and smart. However, many come from families where their parents did not get a high school education or even speak English, which makes their progress in our educational system harder than for those who come from more privileged backgrounds.

My Project

My students are all bilingual students, whose families share a love for the sport of soccer. Many of them are on after school soccer team leagues, and love to share their stories of playing against one another in class. I'd like to have soccer balls, soccer trainers, and soccer goals so that my students can practice their soccer skills. Having the supplies for them to learn to play and practice their skills will help them not only gain self-confidence, but also help them run and enjoy outdoors activities which they can share with their families. Finally, it will give those students who excel at soccer a chance to shine and help those classmates who need some tips and further solidify them as a working team.
