Soaring Through History with Mr. R

My students need basic art supplies such as dye and rubber bands to create shirts. Chart paper and markers are needed to make propaganda posters as well as political cartoons.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bringing students out of their digital age and creating deeper understanding and a personal connection to the past is easier to accomplish with physical drawings and artwork which allow technology to be a supplementary tool to accomplish non-digital goals.

My school is a full inclusive site, with a 100% free and reduced lunch program.

With many students needing a warm, friendly and fun environment to consistently show them that they are appreciated. These students come from high poverty levels and need a stable, safe environment that encourages learning through project based lessons.

My Project

Students will create propaganda posters and political cartoons to immerse themselves in the learning about the cultures and perspectives of others during the 20's, WWII, 50's, Korean War and 60's. Students will also participate in a tie dying activity where they will listen to the music of the era, which would have been discussed in class for a deeper meaning and understanding. The students will perform the tie dying rituals, which will bring them closer together as a group, immerses them in a cultural activity, keeps them out of trouble after school and creates a further bond to the knowledge of the era.

The students' lives will be improved by allowing them to not worry about bringing in project/craft supplies, which allows them easier access to an expanded variety of learning activities that they normally would not receive due to major budget cuts.
