Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

EAST is an elective class where students take the lead on technology driven projects that make a real difference in their community. Right now, we have three major projects that will reach new heights, literally, with the help of drones! Until now, students have been practicing on an older drone with unsupported software. They’ve also researched proper drone usage under FAA regulations. To truly take their work to the next level, we need updated technology.

With cutting-edge drone technology, our students will unlock ambitious opportunities, from safely mapping overgrown areas to tracking wildlife.

These tools will help us soar past previous limitations!

We currently have three drone projects.

"Wings and Whiskers Watch"

Birds and critters have found their way into our school through hidden access points in the roof and gutters. Some areas are as high as three stories! Now, they’ll use drones to capture video footage and photographs to help maintenance crews seal these openings.

"Walking in the Wilderness"

Partnering with Arkansas Game and Fish, students are designing a walking trail around a small lake, complete with educational waypoints. The drone will be essential for mapping distances, capturing marketing images, and ensuring student safety when exploring untamed areas where future paths will go.

"Pathway to Safety"

Our small town is growing, and school traffic patterns are shifting. This team is reimagining drop-off and pick-up routines for the district. Using drones, they’ll record time-lapse videos of current traffic flow and create simulations for a more efficient system.

These projects push students to innovate, problem-solve, and make a tangible impact in our community. With the right technology, there’s no limit to what they can achieve!
