My students need 20 microviewers so that they can view slides on the cell and stages of cellular division. Many of my students do not have the skills to use a microscope.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students came from schools that offered little or no knowledge on how to work with scientific equipment. So when I asked my students to find cells under the microscope, many of them became frustrated and disconnected from the lesson because they could not perform that task.
I teach in an urban charter school, where most of my students fall under the poverty level.
Although my students are 9th graders, they have a 5th-6th grade reading level. They are all great kids but have a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to reach success.
My Project
Many of the students want to learn but get frustrated when they cannot do simple skills like reading Regents style questions. Because my class is a Regents class, the level at which I teach must be consistent with New York State standards.
To combat my students' shortcomings in reading, I try to incorporate a lot of hands-on activities. I feel that if my students can develop an understanding for a concept using their senses rather than trying to decipher text from a textbook, they would be better learners.
By contributing to my project, you will be helping me help these young people in understanding their world.
Knowledge of the cell and how it reproduces are Regents topics and these students need to know it. These microveiwers would be a great tool to help them gain this knowledge.
