This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

No matter where my students come from, they deserve to learn in a clean and safe environment. Our science classroom does not have windows, and circulation is often a major issue, as class sizes can sometimes be above 30 scholars. Every year I work to provide my scholars a classroom with clean air, smell goods, and proper sanitation resources/practices.

One of my wishes for this academic year is for my students to have the privilege of entering into a classroom without worrying about unpleasant odors, allergies, COVID-19, Monkeypox, or other environmental dangers.

My goal is to eliminate distractions, and to ultimately create a peaceful oasis for my students. The air purifiers will create a filtration system for the classroom which will eliminate odors and improve overall air quality. These are the most expensive items on my list, and I hope their importance is understood.

The remaining items on this wish list (i.e. band-aids, diffuser/humidifier + accessories, Lysol spray, concentrated cleaning solution, hand sanitizer, etc.) are not as costly as the air purifiers, but they are integral parts of a clean and inviting educational setting. I disinfect and reset my classroom daily.

The candles have been added to the wish list for a dual purpose. The candles will not only be used for their smell-good properties, they will also be used for specific science labs/experiments, regarding standards related to our Chemistry unit (i.e. chemical vs. physical changes). We use candles every school year as a means to unpack our Chemistry unit; this is our way of utilizing open flames inside a 2022 8th Grade Science classroom, where Bunsen burners are not an available option.
