This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently a middle school counselor in a high needs middle school in the South Bronx. Although my students face many obstacles, even before the school day starts, they come to school prepared and ready to learn. Their eagerness to learn and grow is contagious.
In order to ensure that my students receive a quality and equitable education, it is imperative that they have access to resources that best enhance their learning experiences and that also appeal to their needs and interests.
My Project
Feeling good about yourself is empowering. This is especially true and important to 11, 12, and 13 year old boys and girls. My middle school students want to feel clean and look good, but this is not always the case. Sometimes it is because they run out of products at home and their parents cannot immediately replace them, they do not understand their changing bodies or because they simply forget.
Simple products like deodorants, combs, body wipes, lip balm and sanitary products can help my students feel confident and empowered in school.
By providing these products discretely, we can help curtail bullying and improve self-esteem!
