My Students

My students are deep thinkers! They are avid learners who are filled with questions about how their world works. My 23 first graders come to school each day with high expectations that they will learn not just reading, writing, and math, but something new, interesting, and from their own wonderings! They love to snuggle into school each day and try on new things. My students have embraced two core ideas. First, you never know what you can do until you try, and second, we can do hard things. Every day they prove to themselves and everyone around them that small people facing big challenges (five different home languages, several transitioning military families, some learning disabilities) can forge ahead, learn, and do it all with a positive attitude. My students are amazing!

My Project

Flexible thinking requires comfortable bodies! Sitting in a hard, stationary chair, or on the floor can distract even the most enthusiastic learner. These beanbag chairs and other seating options will be added to the pillows and seat cushions we already use. These will give my students options so they can keep their bodies comfortable and their minds engaged. My students are good decision makers when given good options, these seating choices will allow them to move easily around the room and mold the learning environment to their individual needs. Their curious minds will no longer be distracted by uncomfortable seating!
