This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our current rug is old, dingy,and tattered. This rug is where the kindergartners spend most of their day working, playing, sometimes even laying around reading their favorite books. I am concerned that it is not sanitary for them to be sitting and laying on this rug!

Our school is a small, urban school in Illinois.

It is a bilingual full-day Kindergarten classroom, filled with active five year old students who love to read, play and collaborate on a daily basis; enjoying each others company while gathering for circle time on our rug.

My Project

Circle time is a fundamental part of our Kindergarten curriculum. The students gather everyday on the rug to work in groups, work on the morning routine, read books, sing songs and lots more. Currently the rug in the classroom is very old, dingy, tattered, and smelly. I want my students to begin the new school year with a new, clean, bright Spanish-English rug that they can feel good about every time they are sitting on it.

I love to sit on the rug with my students.

Unfortunately with our current rug I don't have that opportunity. It breaks my heart just thinking of my students sitting on this rug much longer. I wish I had the resources to purchase a new rug myself, but I can't. Please help us start the new school year with a new, clean rug!
