Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Help me give my students a big, colorful rug to create a positive, safe, and effective learning environment for students.

My Project

My fourth graders need your help! Our goal is to create a creative, cozy learning environment that includes a big, colorful rug.

Why a rug?

1. Gathering on a rug can foster a sense of community, cooperation and social interaction among students.

2. Rugs offer a comfortable alternative to hard chairs and desks, reducing fidgeting and improving attention spans, especially for kinesthetic learners.

3. Rugs clearly define areas for activities, like music, dance, theatre, circle time or reading.

4. Rugs absorb sound, reducing noise and echoes, creating a more conducive environment for listening and learning, especially for students who are noise sensitive.

5. Rugs can provide a softer surface for falls and reduce injuries, which is particularly important for younger children.

Our current classroom is made up of a variety of hard materials: hard floors, hard boards, hard desks and chairs. Our hope is to achieve a better balance. Sitting in a plastic chair for hours on end isn't a fun way to spend the entire school day. Nor is it conducive to learning. A soft school rug is a great place for kids to stretch out, dance, wiggle, collaborate with peers, or read in comfort; just like they would at home.

Due to the daily wear and tear in high-traffic classrooms, a classroom rug must be made of sturdy, easy-clean materials that last longer than cheaper alternatives. The best rugs have been known to last for over 20 years! But the initial investment can be costly to classrooms and teachers, which is why we are reaching out to our friends, neighbors, community, and kind patrons who are willing to support us with our goal.

Your donation will include funding for: a big beautiful rug (sized to accommodate the entire class)

We appreciate your consideration and support!
