Help me give my students a new rug! After the COVID19 Pandemic, all carpets were removed from the school and I would love to welcome them into school for the first time in a year with a new carpet!
My 4th and 5th-grade students are creative, inquisitive, and love to learn through discovery. Together we are a community of scholars who learn a little differently from our general education peers.
Even though the students in my classroom have Autism, they don't let it stop them from achieving amazing things and learning new information each day.
My students love to draw, paint, and write whenever they get the opportunity. They seek out chances to make connections between what they have already learned and what we are learning now.
My Project
The Coronavirus Pandemic debilitated classrooms across the U.S. In addition to finding ways to keep students learning and engaged through a computer screen, with in-person instruction beginning and the health and safety of all kids at the forefront of priorities, all carpets were thrown away. The cost of sanitizing and replacing the necessities in the classroom not only falls on the teachers themselves but most importantly falls on the students being left without a comfortable place to sit on the floors. As the country attempts to restore a sense of the pre-COVID world, I too would love to be able to bring normalcy back to my students.
The students in my classroom are creative, funny, loving, and intelligent; they love to be in the classroom, but due to the sensory needs caused by their autism spectrum disorder, sitting at a desk all day is improbable.
Having carpet areas, along with the exercise balls and standing at raised desks that I provide, allows them to engage in learning where they are most comfortable. This new classroom rug is not just a desired décor, it will promote learning and establish comfort for a group of students who are, just like all of us, trying to make the best of their situations.
