This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Over half of my students are second language learners and over eighty percent of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. As these students receive instruction in English, many of them are balancing the difficult task of learning English at the same time as learning grade level standards. In addition to this balancing act some of my students walk into the classroom counting on the meals that are served at school. Although my students walk into our school/classroom with hardships that they cannot control they have a desire to learn. With this desire they find confidence within themselves to be resilient in life.
My Project
These board games (like Operation, Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, and Trouble) will help my students have structured activities during indoor recess. In Colorado, we never know what the weather will be like at any point. Therefore, my students need structured games that they can play during indoor recess while still having fun and still enjoying their recess time. In addition, these games will help teach them turn taking, teamwork, and problem solving skills. There will be more opportunities for students to engage in these concepts by having these board games and provide them excitement. We would appreciate any donation to support our learning during what is meant to be a break from their rigorous learning.
