My students need snow gear! The last couple of years the temperature has dropped below 0 degrees F with the windchill. I would like to get them snow suits and snow boots to keep them warm.
I have two half day preschool classes of three, four, and five year olds. AM has named their class 'The Pretty Heart Class' and my PM class has named themselves 'The Squarely Cat Class'. Both classes love Pete the Cat. We have pet worms that they take care of and will soon be getting hermit crabs that will also be their responsibility.
My school is in a low-income area and all of my students are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
They love coming to school and all have loving and caring families that are extremely involved in the classroom. They are grateful for the positive experience their students are having for their first time in school.
My Project
Most of the children in my class ride the bus or walk to school. It can get pretty frigid in Northeast Ohio and the children rarely have appropriate gear to face the cold.
The snow suits and snow boots will help get them to school safely.
I only have my students for half a day so I want them to be ready to learn as soon as they get in the building and not focusing on how cold they are.
Also, we will be able to go outside and enjoy the snow during recess when the temperature allows. This will allow for them to explore science (Where does snow come from? Why does it melt?) and allow them to continue to develop their gross motor skills throughout the winter (running, climbing, throwing).
