Sneaker Sense

Help me give my students sneakers so they can participate in PE class, as well as be comfortable during their school day so they can focus on learning and socializing with their peers.

My Students

This year, my students are from a mix of grades! During Physical Education, it is their time to shine in a different way in school, through physical activity. It's a way for students to see their skills outside of the classroom.

Many of my students are from low-income households and live in small, cramped, and crowded spaces; and that's if they're not living in a temporary housing unit or shelter.

There is not much green space or large safe spaces for them to run around and play in. Physical Education class gives them the chance to grow in a way they often could not outside of school. In order to get my students up and moving, I need materials that cater to their size, growth, and development. This includes athletic equipment and basic life needs like snacks, sneakers, and clothing items.

My Project

As a Physical Education teacher, it is imperative that my students have sneakers on in order to participate in class. Unfortunately, some of my students are attempting to participate in shoes that have holes in them, don't fit them or are falling apart. Not only are they wearing these to class, they are also wearing them around school daily.

It's so upsetting to see students in shoes that don't fit them, or are barely held together.

I try my best to make sure students are outfitted and ready to go, but it is impossible, as a teacher, to have all of these supplies at the ready with no funds for them. This project isn't your typical pens and pencils request; it's for basic needs for my students to succeed not only in school, but also in life. Thank you!
