My Students
You haven't heard of SnapWords? It's time you had! They are an amazing resource to teach sight words that kids love! SnapWords are an effective way to teach kids important sight words to help them read more fluently! Kids need interactive, memorable experiences in order for them to truly learn.
We are a classroom of 20 eager kindergarten students in northwest Oklahoma.
These five and six year old students have a large range of backgrounds. Many of my students are English Language Learners. All of my students come from a variety of backgrounds. Those students, including those with special needs, thrive from hands-on, engaging experiences. These interactive experiences give all students a purposeful, memorable learning experience. I yearn for all my students to take away a true love for learning and a deep understanding of academic goals and skills.
My Project
Students will act out each sight word as I go through the SnapWord cards with them. I will pull out a new card, and we will say the word together and do the motions of the card. For example, putting both arms out asking for something for the word "want" and saying, "Want. I want some!" It is amazing to see how quickly they learn so many new words through this great strategy and tool.
Sight word games will continue to push students' sight word knowledge along through fun sight word bingo activities, jumping on sight word steps, and playing many other sight word games, such as those in the sight word chest. The sight word readers will allow the kids to apply their newly attained sight word knowledge to reading stories. Learning sight words helps students read more fluently and with more confidence. The resource guide for teaching SnapWord sight words will allow for me to more effectively teach sight words to all my students.
Many students have a hard time learning sight words.
Sight words are such a vital part of reading as they make up 64-90% of the books children read (Child1st.com). Children have a tough time just memorizing words without giving them real meaning like SnapWords will for them. Sight words are important for young readers to grow in confidence as they read. These resources will bring genuine, fun experiences to help children learn their sight words that will help develop them into great readers.
