This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"A picture is worth a thousand words"- Unknown. My students are a lively bunch that are curious about the city. Many of my students are immigrants whose families have settled in Philadelphia and made this city their home. They are familiar with this community but rarely see other neighborhoods.

I am a fifth year teacher in the School District of Philadelphia.

I am currently in my third consecutive year as a third grade teacher. I have previously taught fourth grade and language arts to first through third grade students. This year I have completed my Reading Specialist program which has allowed me to improve and adapt the way I teach reading and language arts to my students. I have been able to implement meaningful learning activities into my classroom such as literature circles and Reader's Theater. I would like to use photographs of our community and use this to increase literacy in my classroom.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are an iPad, camera, printer ink and photography books. I attended professional development this school year about photography in the classroom. During this year, I would like to photograph areas of interest outside of the community to present to my students. The use of visuals will help bring these communities to life. These materials would be beneficial to my growth as an educator and help me apply what I have learned in my professional development session. With these items, I will be able to use Adobe Photoshop and take pictures. I will then be able to edit the photographs on the iPad using Photoshop Touch. Once the photographs are edited, I will be able to print them out on the classroom printer. These resources will allow me to apply what I have learned about photography in the classroom and enable me to implement this into my classroom.

Your donations to this project will provide materials that will be used to photograph neighborhoods outside of the classroom.

The iPad, camera, printer ink, and photography books will improve my instructional practice by allowing me to reach my visual learners. This will also encourage creativity in my instruction. These resources will improve my classroom for many years to come!
