My students need hands-on activities to help them learn about electrical circuits. These Snap Circuit Kits are amazing and durable enough to be reused from year to year!
My students are part of a Gifted and Talented Spanish Dual Immersion program in a high poverty neighborhood. Half of them are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers.
Their goal is to leave elementary school, not only speaking two languages, but also reading well and writing properly in all academic subjects.
Despite coming from economically disadvantaged families, these students have worked hard to earn their place in this program. They are the cream of the crop at our school and help to set the bar for the rest of the students. Helping our dual immersion students is to ensure their success as future bilingual leaders in our community.
My Project
My 5th grade students need engaging hands-on activities to learn about electrical circuits. I cannot always afford to buy the materials needed to build circuits from scratch, especially when some parts break and need to be replaced each year.
These Snap Circuits Alternative Energy Kits focus on renewable power sources.
Students can experiment with solar power, windmills, hydroelectric power, rechargeable batteries, and liquid batteries. The parts are meant to be used again and again so they will be durable enough to reuse from year to year.
My students love science and they would be so excited to be able to experiment with these kits in small groups. I could also use them as a reward activity or for inside recess on bad weather days. If you wish that your teachers had given you kits like this to play with when you were in school, please consider donating to this project!
