My students are 3 to 4 year olds, some of whom are experiencing school for the very first time! This can be exciting and terrifying all at the same time! They will be learning many academic things this school year but most importantly they must learn what it means to get along with one another as well as understand how to be their best self in school.
These children come from a variety of backgrounds economically and culturally.
It is my goal to build a community, regardless of their differences, through their shared experiences. In my classroom, learning through play is of utmost importance. Through play children learn how to self-regulate and solve problems, their language increases as they interact with one another, they practice listening and speaking skills, and they learn how to adapt and improvise. It is a developmentally appropriate classroom that is safe and welcoming and one in which they can work on becoming their best selves!
My Project
My students are three and four years old at the beginning of the school year. Being able to remember one moment to the next can be quite a feat for children of this age! School readiness means being able to tackle this skill. One way I would like to do that is to help them remember their learning and growth. Children of this age are typically non-readers so making lists and charts doesn’t work for them. They need pictorial representations and what kid doesn’t like seeing a picture of themselves or their own creations?! It is so incredibly motivating for students to see themselves exemplifying the rules of the classroom, taking pride in their work and utilizing the camera and printer to help them rebuild something they previously worked on. This camera and printer would help increase their motivation to create and learn together!
