Have you ever been to a place so exciting that you wanted to share it with someone? What if you did not have the words to tell someone? What if there was no one who could talk to you about it in your language?
My students need a way to document the things they see and love.
I want to develop the vocabulary of my low-income students and my Spanish and African speaking students. We live in Wisconsin and have so many wonderful things to share with each other, but they often do not know how write about the things they see outside of school. In writing, we encourage students to write about their meaningful, everyday moments.
My Project
These four cameras will be checked out to families to take pictures of everyday objects, places and events. When the cameras come back to school, teachers will work with the children to build a written story about their pictures. Think of how great it will be for us to learn about different cultures and families!
This project is so important to my students because it gives them a chance to share their personal experiences with their classmates and teachers without needing to know all of the English vocabulary they do not have.
Students will have a chance to be less shy and gain pride in their own differences and cultures.
