it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my students because they are resilient, curious, and full of potential. They come from challenging backgrounds, yet they show up every day ready to learn and grow. Many of my students face food insecurity, making it difficult to focus in class. Providing snacks as part of our nutrition lessons will not only engage them academically but also meet a basic need—ensuring they have the energy to participate and retain information.
This project will bring nutrition to life in a way that’s meaningful and hands-on.
We will compare processed foods versus whole foods, allowing students to see, touch, and taste the difference. By analyzing nutrition labels, they will gain real-world skills in understanding ingredients, serving sizes, and making informed food choices. These lessons will empower them with the knowledge they need to build healthier habits, breaking cycles of poor nutrition that many have grown up with.
Beyond academics, this project provides a safe and supportive space where students know they are cared for. Something as simple as a healthy snack can make a huge impact—giving them a sense of stability and nourishment that extends beyond the classroom. These resources will not only fuel their bodies but also fuel their ability to focus, engage, and succeed.
