Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students show up every single day with a kind of courage and resilience you would like to see in every child. They face challenges that would stop many adults in their tracks, and they keep going, keep trying, keep laughing. They cheer each other on. That kind of joy is real and contagious.

We are a small, rural community in Alaska, far from the conveniences of a bigger city.

Many of my students rarely leave our town. That makes every new experience not just fun, but genuinely life-expanding. These kids deserve to bowl, to splash in a pool, to discover what the world looks like beyond our zip code.

Our class has been graciously invited to Fort Greely Army Base, two hours from our community, for a day of fun activities, including an indoor pool, a playground, a bowling alley, and a game room. For many of my students, this will be their first time bowling, their first time on a military installation, and for some, their first time swimming in an indoor pool. This is the kind of memory that stays with a child forever.

Snacks help them learn, thrive, stay focused, & sustain energy.

Many of my students have sensory needs. A snack keeps them regulated & ready. Reducing anxiety & meltdowns. New environments can be overwhelming to some. A familiar, comforting snack during transitions is a proven calming tool for students with sensory needs. Sharing a snack together builds community. Choosing, unwrapping, and eating independently are real-life skills we practice every day. For students new to these activities, a snack break provides a chance to process, communicate, and re-engage with confidence. Your donation fuels more than a snack. It powers a child's confidence when they do something brand new and love it.
