This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn, and determined to succeed. However, many of them are unable to bring in their own supplies, so it is up to me to make sure that they have what they need to learn. As their teacher, I want to be able to provide them with all the tools they need to succeed.

I am a second and third grade teacher in a Title I funded public school on Staten Island.

I teach a 12:1:1 class with 12 students that have challenges ranging from learning disabilities to speech and language impairments and autism. They struggle to keep up with the Common Core Curriculum and need a lot of support. As their teacher, it is my job to do everything possible to make the curriculum accessible to them.

My Project

Many of my students come to school each day with no snack and no drink. The snacks and water will help my students keep their energy up and to continue to learn all day. Many of them do not bring supplies to school. The pencils, markers, and glue I’m asking for will be to use in the classroom for everyday activities.

My students are determined to learn despite the hardships they may face.

It is my goal to make their lives just a little easier, and to give them the best education that I can. These supplies and snacks will help me do that!
