My Project
The items included in this project will greatly impact the environment that I provide for my students. Not only does the room draw great attention from students as they pass by the room and observe from the window, but also draws students in, sparks their curiosity, and often leads to them wanting to be in the wellness center for many hours in the day. The visual representations on the wall, including the affirmation station, student drawings, mental health check in, and affinity posters all have been reported as testaments to students' experiences and have been shown to directly affect their feelings of belongingness when coming into the wellness center.
The books included in this project are books that address social issues that are prevalent at our school, yet it is presented in a comprehensive and welcoming fashion that invites students into the discourse of challenging and confronting issues like bullying, racism, depression, failure, belongingness, etc.
The games included in this project has been essential for budding rapport amongst students and counselor and students and students through the facilitation of social skills curriculum and open dialogue to learn more about one another, meanwhile learning essential skills for socializing.
