My Students
My students are fun, compassionate, and curious young children. When they arrive at school in the morning, they race to the schedule, excited to find out what is on the agenda for the day.
Every day is fresh, new, and exciting!
Our school is one of the most diverse in the district and is located in a tight-knit community in the heart of San Francisco. Many of my students' cousins, parents, and even grandparents have attended our school!
The community bond shows through as students giggle, play, and learn together throughout the day.
My Project
One of the most essential things I learned about in my teacher training was Maslow's hierarchy of needs. If children don't have their most basic needs met, they will not be open to learning new things. I see this play out daily in my kindergarten classroom. Students who have not eaten breakfast are tired and slow-moving compared to their peers.
I would like to refresh my snack cabinet so that I can meet my students' basic everyday needs.
When students complain of hunger throughout the day, I can offer them an immediate snack instead of telling them how many minutes until lunchtime.
When students feel safe and cared for, they are capable of amazing things! Thank you for helping me build a caring community where my young students can thrive.
