My Project
"I missed breakfast because I was late." "I'm hungry, Teacher. I wish you had a snack for me." "I didn't eat much last night." These are all statements that my kindergarten students have made to me. Many of my kindergarten students do not have adequate nutrition at home, so they come to school hungry. They have difficulty concentrating on learning because this basic need is not met.
I am requesting snacks, including cheese crackers, goldfish crackers, chips and pretzels, to help reduce the hunger that my students feel at school and at home.
I plan to make this food available to students during snack time since many of my students cannot bring a snack. We have lunch at 11:00, which is a long time for five and six-year-old children to go without breakfast and snacks. I will also send home some of these individually packaged snacks in select students' pockets, to help them be less hungry at home. By feeding my students, donors to this project will help them be able to focus on learning and acquiring the academic and social skills necessary to become successful students and adults.
Thank you for taking the time to read my project idea! This project is extremely important to my wonderful kindergarten students. Previously, some awesome donors have funded similar projects and my students were extremely happy and relieved to have the opportunity to have a snack when they were hungry. It made such a difference!
