This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day ready to learn, and determined to succeed. However, many of them are unable to bring in their own supplies, let alone snacks to keep them going until lunchtime. So it is up to me to make sure that they have what they need to learn. As their teacher, I want to be able to provide them with all the tools they need to succeed.

I am a second grade teacher in a Title I funded public school on Staten Island.

I teach a 12:1:1 class with 12 students that have challenges ranging from learning disabilities to speech and language impairments and autism. They struggle to keep up with the Common Core Curriculum and need a lot of support. As their teacher, it is my job to do everything possible to make the curriculum accessible to them.

My Project

Many of my students come to school with only the most basic supplies, and no lunch or snacks. All of my students qualify for a free lunch, however we have a late lunch, so we have a mid-morning snack to keep students' energy up to enable them to continue learning throughout the day.

These snacks are just another "tool" that can improve my students' lives and help them to learn better.

Each week we buy snacks for the classroom, but they get used up very quickly so any donations towards this project for snack swill be of a huge help.
