This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters. 

Two of my students had a recent tragedy with an electrical fire in the home that took everything from them.

My Project

My two students had a house fire recently that took everything from them.

Fortunately everyone from the home escaped safely.

The two girls will now be remote learners since they have been placed in a shelter far from school.

The family has assistance from the city for essential food supplies, but the family will no longer have excess money for afternoon snacks.

I would like to show my two students that they are being cared for in their time of great need. At school I always had snacks in my office for afternoon pick me ups. I know how much the snacks meant to my students.

Now more than ever these two students need everything they can get. I know this seemingly small gesture will mean so much to them.
