My students need snack to help them focus on learning and academics as opposed to the rumbling tummies! Many of my students don't have access to healthy food options and often times eat junk food.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students come from from the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood in San Francisco. Since the 1960s, the Bayview-Hunters Point community has been cited as a significant example of marginalization. It remains "one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of San Francisco". Root causes include a working class populace historically segregated to the outskirts of the city, high levels of industrial pollution, the closure of industry, and loss of infrastructure. The results have been high rates of unemployment, poverty, disease and crime.
These students are so resilient and bright, but sometimes they aren't able to focus in class because they experience tremendous amounts of trauma and stress.
They also suffer from malnutrition and hunger.
I work in the Health and Wellness Center, and I am a Community Health Outreach Worker. I often see students struggle with stress, trauma, illness, and depression due to things happening in their homes and in their communities. I am committed to providing a safe, clean, and comfortable space for all students.
My Project
My students struggle in class due to constant hunger and illness. They aren't able to focus on their classwork and often come to me seeking food, water, and comfort. I also see many students eating Hot Cheetos and junk food because they can not afford nutritious meals and snacks. They will come to the Health and Wellness Center complaining of stomach aches and headaches from all the chemicals they ingest from their junk food.
Being able to provide our most at-risk students with snacks and food will allow them to feel safe, cared for, and ready to focus in class.
I have students who have to steal and hoard food just to survive and I don't want ANYBODY to ever feel hungry at school.
