Help me give my students snacks such as Smartfood Popcorn, Kellogg's Nutri-Grain, Soft Baked Breakfast Bars and Garden Veggie Straws for brain power during standardized testing!
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district; my students (special education, general education, and gifted students) are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experience.
My students are a group of inquistive and creative third graders who approach life and new concepts enthusiastically.
Due to the lack of materials and equipment, my students sometimes are not able to put their fabulous ideas into action. My goal is to help each student reach their potential for learning and to help them grow academically. Each child in my classroom is different, and it can be challenging to adjust my learning plan to fit every student. To achieve this goal, I would like to create a functional environment which meets the learning style of every student in my class. I want to provide a place that is safe, healthy and comfortable to work and learn in that makes each student look forward to coming to class every day.
My Project
We are in the 4th marking period and are getting ready for standardized testing! Standardized test weeks often fill students with dread: the thought of long hours of filling in answer sheets and the pressure of getting the right answers are stressful for many children. I would like to provide a snack for my students to enjoy during the testing.
The snack provides a healthy energy boost to the test taker and allows him to concentrate on the test, rather than when the lunch bell will ring.
I have an amazing group of kids that try their best at whatever the task may be. Telling them "good job" or "I am proud of you" works, but I have learned that snacks also motivate them as well. These snacks that I am requesting will be another great asset to have in my class. Snacks are an underrated yet crucial part of planning for test success. Good snacks will help my students succeed such as (Nutri-Grain bars, Smartfood popcorn and Granola Bars), giving them the brain boost they need, while bad snacks can suck their energy and make them more hungry.
Some of my students come from homes where motivation is a key factor in their upbringing, while others are missing it. My students are quick to work hard when they know there is a possibility of a treat. As the time for the standarized test quickly approaaches, having something sweet can help them through the test. With your help, these snacks will continue to help provide a positive learning environment. Everybody needs a little extra motivation.
