Help me give my students snacks for our classroom. We live on St. Lawrence Island in between Alaska and Russia, so everything gets flown in. Stuff at our store are very expensive.
We live in a remote village on St. Lawrence Island, in Savoonga, Alaska. Because of our remote location, we 100% depend on flights from Nome to bring groceries. Another dynamic of that includes that sometimes, we can wait days or weeks for planes because of either weather in Nome, or here in Savoonga. When this happens, our store runs out of essentials and groceries fast. In Siberian Yupik we call this sangiisak, which translates to barely anything.
Our 3rd grade class is requesting help for snacks because we use them as prizes when we fill up our incentive box charts.
We also sometimes just like to have a snack. Some families also heavily depend on food stamps, and run out in middle of the month. Food security is a huge struggle here, so it is also nice to have a snack for the students during certain times of the month when people are struggling.
