This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 1st graders who love school. They are full of energy and excitement to learn. They come from very challenging home lives, the majority coming from low income families.
Every day I love teaching them and watching them grow.
Their enthusiasm for learning is incredible. We have made such incredible growth this year.
I also teach in a dual language program and my students are learning to be bilingual in English and Spanish. It's an adventure every day!
My Project
Many of my students come from low-income homes and can't afford a snack every day. We receive a healthy snack from the school 2-3 times a week but on the off days, many (the majority) of my students do not have a snack. On the days we don't have a snack from school or home, I provide a snack for them. I don't want them to be hungry and want to do what I can to fill their little bellies so they can learn! Hunger is never something a child should have to deal with. Help me stock our snack shelf and feed my students!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
