My Project
I teach 6th and 7th graders at the middle school level. My students are diverse learners and all have individual education plans to increase their success at school. Instead of taking an elective class, students come to my classroom for an additional academic support class to help with reading, writing, math, behavior and social/emotional skills.
The majority of my students have lunch early in the day and benefit from a snack like granola bars, pretzels or popcorn to help them remain ready to learn until school is out at 3:50.
The middle school schedule has 8 periods per day and the demand on 11 and 12-year-olds is huge. Students this age are growing rapidly and the extra boost in the afternoon is crucial to their focus and success.
