Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Snacks are an important aspect of a balanced and healthy diet for everyone, but particularly for homeless youth who often struggle with food insecurity and lack access to nutritious meals. By providing healthy snacks to these youth, we can help to improve their overall health and well-being, which in turn will enhance their ability to learn and concentrate in school. When youth have access to adequate nutrition, they are more likely to experience benefits such as increased energy levels, better memory and cognitive functioning, and improved mood and behavior. A healthy body and mind are necessary for optimal academic performance and achievement, making it crucial to ensure that homeless youth have access to the nutritious snacks they need to grow and succeed.

Snacks play an important role in improving learning for both homeless youth and youth in general.

When eaten at the right time and in the right quantity, snacks can provide the necessary energy and nutrients needed for optimal brain function. For example, snacks high in protein can help to regulate blood sugar levels and enhance cognitive function, while snacks containing healthy fats can help with memory retention and focus.

In the case of homeless youth, who often experience food insecurity and chronic hunger, providing a consistent source of nutritious snacks can help to alleviate hunger pangs and provide the fuel needed for optimal concentration and learning. Access to food and proper nutrition is vital to ensure that youth have the physical and cognitive ability to attend and excel in school, and can ultimately lead to improved academic performance. Additionally, the act of providing snacks can also contribute to a sense of trust and security for these youth, allowing them to feel supported and valued, which in turn can lead to better self-esteem and motivation.
