This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a dynamic group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with humor and laughter and creative minds. More than a positive attitude, these kids come to my classroom often tired of dealing with social issues beyond their control. They often ask if I have food or anything to drink and some basic sanitary supplies. They tell me it's hard for them to concentrate when they have not had anything to eat from home, and it's hard for them to socialize when they know other people avoid them because they have not had a decent bath in a long time.

My Project

My students will benefit from having a healthy snack variety box, veggie straw sticks, grandma cookies and bottled water to help them keep focused and hydrated during class. It is my goal to alleviate their hunger while they are trying to do their class work. They often come to class without having eaten breakfast and are often feeling weak because they have not had anything to eat at the beginning of the day. Through these snacks students will be able to complete their class work on time without having to procrastinate due hypoglycemia, which commonly occurs when a person has low blood sugar as a result of skipping meals. The snacks also give students motivation to come to class on time everyday because they know that there is always going to be something to eat and they can bring snacks with them to take home to share with their families.
