My students need a selection of healthy snacks like trail mix, assorted nuts, granola bars, and juice to encourage them to come to before-school homework help.
I have the most spunky, creative students this side of the Mississippi, and there is never a dull moment in my classroom. Three of the courses I teach are composition classes, which are writing intensive. My students joke that after completing one of my writing courses, they have the stamina to each write their own novel. I have high expectations, but my students always exceed them (and we have a lot of fun too). Their writing makes me laugh, cry, think, and question. I would not trade this group of writers for anything.
My Project
My public high school starts at 7:45, but I'm always here at 7:00 to offer homework help to my juniors and seniors. It's tough for teens to get up this early and drag themselves to school, especially when it is still dark outside.
My students are very dedicated and make the effort to arrive to school early for help with their writing, but this means that they usually skip breakfast.
I would like to provide healthy breakfast snacks for them, including granola bars, trail mix, and juice. The students specifically requested the pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and flavored cashews. Some of them have never tried pineapple juice, and others have admitted that the only nut they have ever eaten is the peanut.
Not only will this project give students energy to get through the school day, it will encourage them to come to before-school homework help to try new foods. By donating to this project, you will show students that you care about their health and their academic excellence.
