My Project

The students in my 4th grade class are provided with separate times for breakfast, lunch, and snack - as most elementary students are. However, not all students have food to eat during those times. Or, if they do have food, it's not always something that will fill them with long-lasting energy and actually fuel their brain for all the learning that we are trying to do.

I want to provide my students with a wholesome snack to supplement whatever they bring from home or receive from the lunch line.

My goal is to provide gluten-free, nutritious snacks, with a daily rotation so that it doesn't get too boring. Oatmeal, beans, and brown rice are some of the foods I plan to supply, as these foods will provide warmth and nutrition far beyond the typical fruit gummies or oily chips. Students will no longer need to bring snack from home or try to remember to save something from their lunch! Additionally, no student will have to worry if they will get something to eat from day to day.

In making our daily snack at school, I will also be able to educate students on cooking, nutrition, food safety, kitchen clean-up, enhance our understanding of fractions, and allow them to practice autonomy in choosing their toppings.
