Snacking Our Way to Success!

Help me give my students some of the simplest things to help get them through the day. Students are easily distracted or dis-regulated because they are hungry and overstimulated.

My Students

My students are all amazing children. Unfortunately, they have been dealt a tough hand in life and because of this, they struggle with some of the most basic skills. My students need constant support throughout the day to meet basic needs. They require tools, one-on-one coaching, and other supports just to get through your typical school day.

Some of my students only require basic sensory tools to help keep them on track during the day, however, many of my students require so much more.

The students that I have the privilege to interact with on a daily basis need extra support in maintaining their behavior, expressing, and identifying feelings, learning how to communicate and make friends, as well as needing a calm, quiet place to process their emotions and feelings when things get too tough for them.

My Project

Often times, my students struggle to stay regulated throughout the school day. This may be due to several different reasons, but the biggest is because they are hungry. It's amazing what a simple snack might do to help a child that suffers from trauma. Snacks allow the student to feel that one of their most basic needs is being met.

There is no reason for a student to feel overstimulated when we have a simple fix at our fingertips.

The weighted blanket is one of the simple fixes. When a child snuggles up in the blanket they often feel comforted, secure, and protected. Something we all tend to take advantage of in our daily lives.

Children with trauma grasp at any opportunity they can to meet these basic needs. I strive to help each and every one of them know that they do not have to grasp because their needs will be met and the resources are always available to them.
