My Project
As a teacher who works at a school where more than 50% of our students come from low-income backgrounds, I see a lot of students who experience food scarcity. In the past, my school district has had a snack program that provided students with an additional snack 3 days a week. This year, the program has ended. To help with my students not receiving snacks from the school district, I would like to fill that void with snacks that I provide in the classroom.
With this project, I hope to give my students a daily snack that they are able to enjoy at school or take home to share with their families.
We know that students work better and feel better with a full belly. Providing snacks in the classroom can help with this. I also teach a caring group of students who like to share and help others. By allowing them the opportunity to take their snacks home, they have the ability to share them with family members or enjoy them at home when they may be a bit hungry.
