My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. They are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to our country. I have a large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school every single day excited to learn. Their excitement pushes me to do my best every day.
Many of my recent Yemeni immigrants have experienced years of interrupted schooling, destruction of their homes, and family members that have been lost due to the conflict in their home country.
Many of my students are also struggling in low income households, but despite all of their trauma, these kids are resilient and inspire me in new ways every day!
My Project
As everyone else is, my school is trying to figure out the best way to keep kids safe in the NYC department of education. We chose to have students' lunch period at the end of the day so they can leave school earlier, beat “rush hour traffic” on busses and subways, and get home before having to come in contact with thousands of people. The problem is that might have them hungry throughout the day! So having snacks available in the classrooms for students to pick on will help them curb hunger and focus on their work until they’re able to get lunch in the afternoon! Help me help them have the best high school experience in 2020-2021!
