Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a dynamic group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with humor and laughter and creative minds. More than a positive attitude, these kids come to my classroom often tired of dealing with social issues beyond their control. They often ask if I have food or anything to drink and some basic sanitary supplies. They tell me it's hard for them to concentrate when they have not had anything to eat from home and it's hard for them to socialize when they know other people avoid them because they have not had a decent bath in a long time.

My Project

My students come from difficult circumstances. Some of them come to my classroom from homeless shelters and foster homes. They come to school feeling defeated and depressed. Often times they ask me for food and something to drink because they said they are hungry. This prompted me to request for bottles of water, chocolate candies, breakfast cereals, some cookies, and other snacks. They know that they are expected to come to the classroom well prepared to learn and these snacks will help them concentrate better. The students can bring the snacks home to share with other members of their family or friends that also need something to eat.
