My Students

Do you remember the beginning of the school year? I loved getting all my school supplies ready, color-coding and putting my name on each one of my things. Every year, I see many different types of students with the same enthusiasm for learning that I had but that may be lacking the materials.

My students are from a diverse neighborhood in Chicago-Rogers Park.

They come from so many different backgrounds and each year, I have had students who speak many different languages. As 4th graders, they are preparing themselves for success from day 1. They are kind and eager to learn, and bring so much knowledge into the classroom that we like to use and explore during classroom instruction. The friendliness and diversity of my students is what makes them so special. All of my students receive free lunch and many of the families struggle financially. However, they come from loving families that try to what's best for their children. I also try to do this for them in any way that I can, be that school supplies or classroom materials. It can be difficult, but I try my best every day, just as my students do.

My Project

With the materials that I have requested, each student will be able to start the school year ready and prepared for learning. They also will be able to keep themselves organized by table or by their desks, with all the necessary materials needed to work in Reading, Writing, Math and Social Studies. The students will use the notebooks for interactive notebooks in Reading; the folders for keeping track of their homework and handouts; the pencils to work on math problems and write the most beautiful poems; highlighters to highlight all the important words; and the markers and colored pencils to decorate and color-code their own work. They will learn how to keep materials for a long period of time as well, as each group will be responsible for their own materials.

This project will make a difference in the lives of every student that walks into my classroom, as they will be able to start off right.

No child will be shamed for not having materials, as every student will start off with the same materials as everyone else. They will be able to focus, because they know that their teacher has the materials that they need to succeed in school. These students need this, because every child deserves to be told implicitly, "you are important and you matter."
